Growth and re-engagement tools guide

Updated: May 11, 2026
This guide consolidates the platform tools available to help you grow your user base, re-engage lapsed users, and increase conversions in the Meta Horizon Store. Each tool serves a different purpose in the user lifecycle, from attracting new users to bringing back inactive ones.

Acquisition and conversion tools

These tools help you attract new users and convert interest into purchases.

Try before you buy (TBYB)

TBYB lets you offer users a free, time-limited trial of your app (15 to 30 minutes). Users can try your app before committing to a purchase, which can increase conversion rates.
  • Set up TBYB from Try Before You Buy in the Developer Dashboard.
  • Trials appear on the Try Before You Buy shelf in the Store and on your app’s product details page.
  • Users can earn achievements during the trial, but cannot purchase in-app content.
For full setup instructions, see Try before you buy.

Promotional pricing and sales

Run limited-time discounts on your apps, add-ons, and subscriptions. You can also enroll in Meta-initiated sale events for additional visibility.
  • Create self-service sales from Growth > Manage Promotions in the Developer Dashboard.
  • Enroll in seasonal Meta promotion events listed on the promotion calendar.
  • Use custom promo codes for targeted distribution through your own channels.
  • Use targeted promo codes to reach specific user segments.
For more details, see Sales promotions.

Store featuring requests

To request that your app be featured in the Meta Horizon Store, submit a request through Growth > Manage Promotions in the Developer Dashboard. Featuring requests are evaluated based on app quality, content updates, and seasonal relevance. Plan your requests around major updates or events for the best results.

Re-engagement tools

These tools help bring back users who have stopped using your app.

Push notifications

Send notifications to prompt users to return to your app. Notifications can remind users about new content, events, or other updates.
  • Notifications are sent through the Platform SDK notification APIs.
  • You can prompt users to perform specific actions, such as writing a review or checking out new content.
See the engine-specific documentation for implementation details: Unity, Unreal, Native.

Events

Create time-limited events that drive users back into your app. Events appear in the Store and on your app’s product details page, creating urgency and encouraging participation.
  • Events can highlight new content, seasonal activities, competitions, or community challenges.
  • Users who have your app installed can receive notifications about upcoming events.
See the engine-specific documentation: Unity, Unreal, Native.

Developer posts

Keep your community informed with app updates, patch notes, or announcements. Posts appear on your app’s product details page and in the Store.
  • Use posts to announce new content, bug fixes, events, or sales.
  • Posts can include images to increase engagement.
For more information, see Developer posts.

Community-building tools

These tools help build long-term engagement and community around your app.

User review engagement

Respond to user reviews on your app’s product details page. Engaging with both positive and negative reviews shows users that you value their feedback and actively maintain your app.

Achievements

Create trophies, badges, or other awards for milestones in your app. Achievements encourage repeat play and give users goals to work toward.
See the engine-specific documentation: Unity, Unreal, Native.

Leaderboards

Add ranked leaderboards to encourage competition among your users. Leaderboards drive repeat engagement as users compete for top positions.
See the engine-specific documentation: Unity, Unreal, Native.

Monetization strategies for growth

Combine growth tools with monetization strategies to maximize revenue.
  • Free-to-play models: Lower the barrier to entry and monetize through in-app purchases. See Free-to-play models.
  • Bundles: Package multiple apps or add-ons together at a discounted price. See Bundles.
  • App referrals: Reward users for referring friends to your app. See App referrals.

Measuring growth

Use the analytics dashboards in the Developer Dashboard to measure the impact of your growth efforts:
