Targeted Promo Codes

You can create targeted promo codes to re-engage specific user cohorts with personalized discounts, driving incremental conversions from users who have already shown interest in your app.

Overview

Targeted promo codes allow you to create promotions for specific groups of users who have demonstrated interest in your app but haven’t made a purchase. Unlike general promo codes that are available to all users, targeted promo codes are delivered only to users in your selected cohort through push notifications and deposited in their promo hub.
This feature helps you re-engage high-intent users with personalized messaging and discounts, such as users who have wishlisted your app but haven’t purchased yet. The targeted approach enables better conversion tracking and more effective marketing campaigns.
Targeted promo codes are developer funded, not Meta funded. This means you will be required to pay for the costs associated with the discount. You can track your campaign performance through detailed analytics in the Developer Dashboard. The targeted promo code feature is designed to help you re-engage users who have shown interest in your app. Here are some potential use cases:
  1. Wishlist conversion campaigns: Target users who have added your app to their wishlist but haven’t purchased yet with personalized discount offers

Eligibility and guidelines

  • This feature is available to developers with published apps on the Meta Quest Store.
  • Currently, targeted promo codes can only be configured as a discount to the app price.
  • Currently, targeted promo codes can only be applied to published apps.
  • Only the targeted user cohort can redeem the promo codes - they are not transferable to other users.
  • Promo codes used in targeted promotions cannot be reused in other targeted campaigns for performance tracking purposes.
  • Due to notification ranking and optimization, not all targeted users may receive the push notification, though the promo code will still be available in their promo hub.

Create a targeted promo code

Use the following steps to create a targeted promo code:
  1. Open your device’s browser and navigate to the Meta Quest Developer Dashboard.

  3. Click Create New in the top right.
  4. Choose Target Promo Code.
  5. Fill out the form with your campaign details.

Once created, your targeted promo will be distributed to the selected user cohort via push notifications, and the promo codes will be deposited in their promo hub for redemption.

View and analyze targeted promo performance

You can view detailed metrics for your targeted promotions in the Developer Dashboard. The analytics provide the following information:

Live Promotions

For each active targeted promotion, you can monitor:
  • Reach: Number of targeted users who received the notification
  • Total Promo Codes Distributed: Total codes made available through notifications and promo hub
  • Total Redemptions: Number of times the promo code was applied at checkout
  • Redemption Rate: Percentage of distributed codes that were redeemed
  • Total Promo Revenue: Revenue generated from the targeted promotion

Past Promotions

For completed campaigns, you can view time series charts showing how performance metrics trended over the campaign duration, including reach, clicks, CTR, purchases, and conversion rates.

Deactivate a targeted promo code

Use the following steps to deactivate an active targeted promo code:
  1. Open your device’s browser and navigate to the Meta Quest Developer Dashboard.
  2. From the left-side navigation, choose Growth, then select Promo Codes.
  3. Select the promo code you want to deactivate.
  4. Click Deactivate.

Targeted promo code best practices

We recommend following these best practices when using targeted promo codes:
  • Understand your wishlist audience: Users who have wishlisted your app have already shown strong interest. Consider what factors might be preventing their purchase - price sensitivity, waiting for reviews, or competing priorities.
  • Monitor campaign performance actively: Use the analytics dashboard to track your campaign’s performance in real-time. If you notice unexpected redemption patterns, you can deactivate the promotion early.
  • Plan for notification limitations: Not all targeted users may receive push notifications due to ranking algorithms. However, promo codes will still be available in their promo hub for discovery.
