Age group self-certification policy
Updated: Oct 14, 2024
All Meta Quest developers are required to indicate their app’s intended age group via a self-certification flow. As a developer, you can do this through the Meta Quest Developer Hub, the Developer Dashboard, or the Oculus Platform Utility. Developers will be able to self-certify their app’s age group when submitting their app or app updates to Meta Quest channels (Store and other applicable release channels). Developers should only select the age group option that they have designed for and ensure that their app is appropriate for users within the selected age group. Developers may update their age group certification at any time if their age group changes.
Developers must accurately identify their age group and update their certification if the app’s age group changes. Meta reserves the right to conduct its own review of the app information that you provide to determine whether the age group that you disclose is accurate. Depending on the content’s age group, an app may be subject to additional requirements, including for the handling, sharing, and transmission of data.

If you fail to comply with this policy, we reserve the right to take action on you or your content, including blocking or removing your app from our distribution channels or any other action we deem appropriate.
Please note that developers are responsible for compliance with any and all privacy and data protection laws in all applicable jurisdictions, including the
Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act, regardless of whether or not you believe it applies to you.
There are three age groups:
- Teens and Adults (13+ or applicable age in user’s region): For apps that are for users 13 years old or older (General Audience).
- Mixed Ages (under 13 or applicable age in user’s region, and 13+): For apps that are for children under 13 years old (ages 10-12) and for teen and adult users (13+).
- Children (under 13 or applicable age in user’s region): For apps that are intended primarily for children under 13 (10-12 year olds). User data from these apps may not be shared with Meta.
For Quest 2 and Quest 3 family apps that are already live on Meta Horizon Store, developers will be required to select and certify their age group in order to remain on the platform. The original Meta Quest and Quest Pro devices are not supported for use by users under 13 years old. Relevant deadlines will roll out in stages. You will be notified by Meta of applicable deadlines for your app.
If you encounter any issues with Get Age Category API integration for a Mixed Ages app, you can receive technical support by submitting a ticket in the
Support Center.
