GDC 2022 Recap
The Game Developers Conference (GDC) just wrapped up in San Francisco, and it was great to be back in person this year. GDC was packed full of informative and inspiring sessions, new games, amazing people, and a lot of fun. We announced new developer support for Horizon Worlds , shared insights around how we designed the Quest ecosystem with developer success in mind, and discussed ongoing efforts to build a more diverse, inclusive, and accessible metaverse. VR for Good Documentary ‘On The Morning You Wake’ Brings Nuclear Awareness to Quest 2
On January 13, 2018, 1.4 million people across Hawai’i received an SMS from the state’s Emergency Management Agency: “BALLISTIC MISSILE THREAT INBOUND TO HAWAII. SEEK IMMEDIATE SHELTER. THIS IS NOT A DRILL.” For 38 minutes, people sought shelter, wrestled with existential questions, and came face-to-face with the threat of nuclear weaponry. And now, On the Morning You Wake (To the End of the World)—an immersive VR documentary—captures their experience to share with others on Quest 2.

We sat down with Meta Developer Program Manager Allison Lee to hear about her role and how she contributes to building a diverse developer ecosystem that supports and amplifies female voices and experiences in VR.

Air Link Framerate Insurance (AFI)
The freedom to feel truly immersed in VR—without the confines of wires—is one of the key features of Quest 2. Air Link recently brought that freedom to PC VR by using your wireless network to stream PC VR content to a Quest. However, sometimes your wireless network can experience some degradation, which will in turn impact your Air Link experience with dropped frames and lag.

Build for Inclusion: Virtually Unstoppable: Women in XR
In 2020, we launched Build for Inclusion, an interactive online learning series designed to keep diverse developers and creators connected, informed, and supported. Through this series and other efforts, including the new Metaverse Culture Series, we’re hoping to bring together a variety of voices and talent from broad spectrums of gender, race, and identities to help shape the conversation around game development and the future of VR.
