Meta Quest Privacy Essentials for Developers: Get Clarity on App Compliance
Today we’re introducing Meta Quest Privacy Essentials for Developers, a series of videos, resources, and guides designed to help you ship apps faster and meet key platform requirements. Built in partnership with Data Protocol, this series is available to anyone with a Meta Quest developer account and breaks down important Meta Quest developer programs and policies such as the Developer Data Use Policy, Data Protection Assessment, and more to help give you clarity on app compliance.
We’re excited to offer developers simple and intuitive resources to use throughout their app’s lifecycle to help understand compliance—whether it’s submitting an app to the Meta Quest Store or App Lab, or making an update to an app’s privacy policy.
This series is optional, but we encourage you to explore the courses to learn how to meet key requirements and policies. We thank you for your part in helping create a more secure platform with privacy and integrity baked into each app experience, and we can’t wait to see how this series benefits your organization. Dive in below to see how Privacy Essentials for Developers can help make understanding app compliance an easier, more intuitive process.
Seven E-Learning Courses to Understand App Compliance
We’ve heard from the developer community that both understanding and tracking compliance in relation to our various, and sometimes nuanced, app policies and requirements can be tricky to manage. Privacy Essentials for Developers was designed specifically as a solution to this problem—now, you can get clarity on key requirements with four main courses, featuring Meta Quest experts as they walk you through through core concepts:
Developer Data Use Policy (DDUP): Your use of any user data collected or processed through the Meta VR Platform, whether directly or indirectly, is subject to the DDUP. Get up to speed on each section in the DDUP to help avoid common pitfalls.
Data Protection Assessment (DPA): The DPA evaluates whether developers comply with Meta policies covering prohibited uses of data, data deletion, data sharing with third parties, and data security. Learn how to submit effective responses and reduce the potential need for follow up questions.
Data Use Checkup (DUC): DUC is how developers request access to the features they need to operate their app and certify general compliance with the DDUP. Learn about your app maintaining access to the crucial platform features used in your app.
App Review for App Lab: Get insight on how to help your app meet standard requirements to distribute on App Lab and provide a great experience to users.
For your benefit, these core components all contain knowledge checks, sentiment questions, and course assessments designed to help make an immediate impact on how you navigate various compliance related requirements.
Reinforce what you learn with knowledge checks and guides for each course
In addition, we’re also offering you three “short code” courses delivering key information about supplemental topics in 5 minutes or less:
An Overview of the Review Lifecycle: Gain clarity on what Meta is looking for during app review, including ways to help your app get approved without red flags or unforeseen surprises.
Writing Your Privacy Policy: Learn the ins and outs of what information you need to include in your app’s privacy policy, to comply with our requirements, including where it needs to be displayed publicly for users.
Navigating the Compliance Dashboard: The Compliance Dashboard lists upcoming, active, and resolved enforcements for all of your organization’s apps in one location within the Developer Dashboard. Learn how to use this central hub containing details and links to resolve violations and proactively ensure your apps are compliant to avoid disruptions.
When to Complete Privacy Essentials for Developers
We’ve designed Privacy Essentials for Developers to be valuable at any time and for any developer building on Meta Quest. However, there are certain stages during your app’s lifecycle when one or more courses may be of particular value to you and your organization.
Prior to submitting an app for distribution: Before shipping to the Meta Quest Store or App Lab, be sure to review all courses to help you with a smooth app review process and to help reduce potential barriers to distribution. The insights you learn can also be applied for future app submissions.
Prior to completing required app compliance items: The series’ courses can help guide you through the process for completing annual or recurring requirements such as Data Use Checkup and the Data Protection Assessment. Reviewing course materials can help you understand what information to provide and how to communicate that your app is properly and securely managing user data.
Prior to updating your app’s privacy policy: The DDUP lists specific requirements with regard to app privacy policies, so reviewing this short code course may help you make sure you don’t miss anything when you update the policy for your app.
When your app receives a compliance-related warning or enforcement: Apps that violate requirements pertaining to the DDUP, DPA, DUC, and/or privacy policies receive communication from Meta with instructions on how to resolve the violation. To help your compliance and eliminate repeat violations, we recommend reviewing applicable courses in the Privacy Essentials series any time your app receives a violation notification.
