Build Faster. Earn More: How We’re Helping VR Developers Succeed on Meta Quest
A few months ago at GDC, we shared a candid look at where VR stands today: the growth, the headwinds across the games industry, and what it takes to build a sustainable business in this space. Your apps drive the engagement, the revenue, and the experiences that keep people coming back to VR. It’s the reason we’re continuing to double down on VR developer tools and platform features, and more specifically, focusing on improvements to help you:
Build faster with new and improved capabilities and tools
Earn more through strategies to acquire and retain users, and grow revenue at any scale
To see what this looks like in practice, look at the team behind Forever Pets. By utilizing the latest tools and integrating AI into their development journey, they managed to push 25 builds in just four weeks. This wasn't just about speed for speed's sake; that velocity allowed them to use Meta’s developer analytics to test and refine their IAP strategy in real-time. The result was a measurable lift in conversion rates and monthly active users. They built faster and earned more by utilizing the latest VR developer tools. This series is about helping every developer do the same.
A Playbook for the Modern Developer
Build Faster, Earn More is a series running the next two months. We’re going to deep dive on the tools, tactics, and playbooks that help you ship faster and grow revenue. Whether you’re a solo developer or a lean studio, we’ll have something for you:
Three posts covering building faster: AI-powered development workflows for any environment, a Unity-specific deep dive, and a guide to porting your Android apps to Quest
Three posts on earning more: proven tactics for acquisition, engagement and retention, and monetization at any scale
Two developer success stories showing how real studios used these tools to ship faster and grow revenue
A three-part growth hacking for building your audience through social media and community
Let’s start with what’s available now.
Build Faster: Accelerating Development for All VR Developers
For the first part of this series, we’ll cover tools that will help you accelerate development. For some studios, VR development ramps up slowly. Platform-specific patterns, configuration overhead, and tedious debugging loops eat into the time you could spend building your game. We want to collapse that timeline with faster setup tools, better performance analysis and by bringing Quest-specific intelligence directly into the editors you already use: Cursor, Claude Code, and VS Code. This lets you spend more time on building your game.
Get Quest-specific answers and tooling in your editor
At the center of this is the Horizon Debug Bridge (hzdb), our new MCP server that allows your AI assistant to "see" your headset and pull directly from our platform documentation. Ask about hand tracking or rendering optimizations to get a Quest-specific answer, not a generic one. And because hzdb supports agentic workflows, your tools can go beyond suggestions to actually execute tasks on your behalf: running shell commands, modifying files, and validating builds.
Tools that accelerate your development environment
For Unity developers, the Meta XR Unity MCP Extension brings Quest context into Unity’s AI Gateway, so actions like making objects grabbable or configuring interaction rigs happen through conversation, not manual setup. The Project Setup Tool removes the configuration guesswork, and the Meta Asset Library gives you access to 1.5 million royalty-free 3D assets with varying LODs directly in the SDK.
If you’re coming from mobile, our Android Studio plugin offers one prompt porting that handles panel sizing and hit targets automatically. See your 2D app running on Horizon OS in minutes, then iterate on desktop with the bundled Meta Spatial Simulator instead of constantly swapping your headset on and off.
From prompt to prototype
At GDC, Developer Advocate Dilmer Valecillos showcased this shift by building a VR slingshot prototype game using Claude Code, Unity's AI Gateway, and Meta’s Extensions, all from a single prompt session. That's the kind of velocity we want to help every developer reach, and it's what the first part of the series will break down step by step.
Earn More: Tactics that work at every scale
Building a great app is only half the equation. You also need the tools to turn that work into a sustainable business. Monetization and discovery are the challenges every developer faces after shipping, and the tactics we'll cover starting in June are designed to work whether you're a solo developer or a lean studio with no dedicated marketing staff.
New capabilities coming this summer
We'll share product improvements we’re making across monetization, engagement, and analytics: better pre-launch insights, more flexible pricing and bundling options, new ways to reach your audience directly through the Quest Store, and improvements to how players discover and evaluate your app. Each post will include documentation so you know exactly how to put these features to work.
Proven tactics for lean teams
Beyond new features, we're publishing a series of practical guides for developers who don't have dedicated marketers:
Acquire: Drive installs through VR-specific advertising, store presence optimization, and pre-launch momentum, without a large budget.
Engage & Retain: Keep players coming back, build a loyal community, and communicate directly with your audience over time.
Monetize & Analyze: Structure your pricing, create compelling offers, and use your data to make smarter decisions as you scale.
Each guide stands on its own, with concrete steps you can apply the same week you read it.
Growth hacking for VR
Finally, we're launching a multi-part growth hacking series: define your audience, pick the right platforms, design for user-generated content, and activate your community as a growth channel. Whether you're posting a few times a week or have dedicated social support, the framework scales. We'll feature VR-specific case studies throughout so you can see what's actually working today.
