Introducing Meta Horizon Creator Competition: Open Source Champions

We’re thrilled to announce the new Meta Horizon Creator Competition: Open Source Champions, kicking off today. Following the announcement of the winners from the Elevate Your Mobile World competition, this new competition challenges creators to build “remixable” worlds that spark collaboration, community and can be pulled from and iterated upon by other creators.

As our third competition of 2025, Open Source Champions will reward 35 worlds with up to $1 million in prizes for building the best remixable worlds, plus an additional $500K awarded to winners of our exciting new mini-challenges. The deadline submission is September 10, so don’t wait to start innovating and building worlds that celebrate the spirit of open source collaboration!

Open Source Worlds: Remix, Iterate, Innovate

At the heart of the Open Source Champions competition are what we’re calling “remixable worlds,” which serve as templates that allow other creators to clone and build upon. This new feature launches today for Meta Horizon Creator Program members and provides them with the option to make worlds remixable with just one click during publishing.

Making your worlds remixable builds your reputation as a leader in the creator community by empowering other creators to build upon your work, become inspired, accelerate their creation workflow and ultimately create better, more engaging worlds faster.

When you view a world in the Meta Horizon Store or the Meta Horizon mobile app, the number of remixes each world and creator receives will be prominently displayed to highlight creators’ skills, community engagement and contributions towards supporting other creators.

With our recently launched Creator Assistant and Style Reference tools in the Worlds desktop editor, you can now leverage GenAI to build remixable worlds faster and share them with the community.

Mini-Challenges: Go Beyond the Basics

In addition to the main competition, you can further showcase your skills and earn extra prizes with optional mini-challenges:

Asset Remixing: Build dynamic, interactive assets designed for reuse, empowering fellow creators to remix your innovations.

Documentation Excellence: Elevate MHCP documentation by crafting engaging, high-quality tutorials that enrich community knowledge.
