The Game Developers Conference (GDC) just wrapped up in San Francisco, and it was great to be back in person this year. GDC was packed full of informative and inspiring sessions, new games, amazing people, and a lot of fun. We announced new developer support for Horizon Worlds, shared insights around how we designed the Quest ecosystem with developer success in mind, and discussed ongoing efforts to build a more diverse, inclusive, and accessible metaverse. Check out some of the highlights below:
Speaker: Chris Pruett, Director of Content Ecosystem, Meta
Virtual Reality has gone mainstream and that means real opportunity for developers. Over $1 billion has been spent on games and apps in the Quest store and over 120 titles have generated revenue in the millions. We provide an update on the ecosystem at this critical inflection point and learn about how we've designed this ecosystem with the express intent of making developers successful.
Speakers: Rachel Cross (Head of Art, Reality Labs, Meta), Amanda Jefson (Sr. Director of Product Management for Avatars & Identity, Meta), Aigerim Shorman (General Manager, Avatars & Identity, Meta), and Mari Kyle (Game Producer, Meta)
Meta’s goal is to help build an inclusive metaverse that benefits everyone and ensure everyone can express and represent themselves. In this session, a panel of Meta leaders cover building for inclusion in games and social experiences. These women are at the forefront of helping to build the metaverse, and discussion is focused on their work to drive diversity, representation, and accessibility through their respective disciplines.
Introducing Start and Launch Pad Support for Horizon Worlds
Last fall, we announced a $10M Creator Fund to encourage more people to explore, play, and create with us in Horizon Worlds. As we continue to push the boundaries of immersive technology and invest in building the metaverse together, we’re expanding our VR developer programs—Oculus Start and Oculus Launch Pad—to include Builder Tracks to support developers interested in building in Horizon Worlds. For more information, check out our blog.
We had an incredible time at GDC and continue to be inspired by the innovative ideas and experiences you’re building in VR. We’re already looking forward to next year!
