On August 9-13, SIGGRAPH 2021 will feature immersive programming from several Oculus Launch Pad and Oculus Start developers, including the world-premiere experience Mementorium from Queer Code Collective, and jury-selected award winners for both the Immersive Pavilion and VR Theater.
The 2021 VR Theater is a showcase of virtual reality storytelling, and the Immersive Pavilion highlights innovative advances in VR, AR and MR. All were chosen by expert jurors and reviewers. Among those selected include the following Oculus Launch Pad and Oculus Start developers:
Mementorium
Contributors: Dylan Paré, Scout Windsor, John Craig (Oculus Launch Pad and Oculus Start)
Mementorium is a heartfelt story about identity and belonging. Find memories of gender and sexuality bias in your childhood room that transport you to a dreamlike place. Choose your story in playful interactions, and discover who you can become when you belong.
Vermillion: Realistic Virtual Reality Oil Painting
Contributor: Thomas van den Berge (Oculus Start)
On-demand: 2 August–29 October; Live Q&A: Tuesday, 10 August, 12:30 pm PDT
Vermillion is a VR oil painting simulator created by The Aviary that offers the unrivaled sense of accomplishment of creating something beautiful on canvas, without the messy living room, by bringing the full analogue joy of painting to the digital world.
Tinker
Contributors: Lou Ward, Cristopher David, Lara Bucarey, Avril Martinez, Aileen Paron, Randy Dixon (Oculus Launch Pad)
Tinker presents an interactive narrative experience about a grandchild and their grandfather, who suffers from Alzheimer’s disease. As the grandchild matures, their ailing grandfather gradually deteriorates. Over time, the participant witnesses this cognitive decline through a series of vignettes focusing on their effort to finish a joint passion project together.
