Create Personalized App Experiences with Location Services

Today we're excited to announce that Meta Quest 3, Quest Pro, and Quest 2 now support Android Location Manager API, a capability that enables you to build location-dependent experiences on our platform starting with v57.
That means that, for the first time, you can use your audience’s Meta Quest headset location to personalize how they engage with your app and the world around them—while at home or on the go.

Use Cases for Social Experiences, Games, and More

Location Services opens up opportunities for a variety of mixed reality and immersive use cases, and it’s been successfully applied to enhance 2D app experiences on other mobile platforms. For example, your fitness apps can load personalized environments that are triggered when users work out in common locations like their living room or office, and your multiplayer experiences can allow people to squad up with other players nearby and jump into the action together.
By using the API to access location data, you can also tap into unique opportunities while your audience travels by displaying location-specific data and building contextually aware experiences based on specific destinations like hotels and resorts. Support for geogating content can also help users feel as though they’re engaging with something fresh and brand-new when they use your app in different locations.
These are just a few examples of how you can use your audience’s location data, and we can’t wait to see how you use it to enhance games, social experiences, educational apps, and the countless other kinds of experiences you’ve created.

Using Location Data Responsibly

The privacy of our users remains a top priority for us across our platform, which is why we’ve designed settings that put people in control of their location data. Your app’s users can turn off location sharing at the system level or at the app level, ensuring that their location data is only accessible when they choose to share it (learn more here). This means that developers can use Location Services to create innovative experiences without compromising user privacy.
