Manage Your Org Effectively With Custom Roles & Permissions

Earlier this year, we announced an important milestone that over $1 billion USD had been spent on games and apps in the Meta Quest Store. This highlights the increasing app quality across the VR ecosystem, in addition to the number of developers engaged with our platform.
As more developers join the ecosystem and their organizations grow, it’s important for each team member to have access to the right resources, tools, and services for their role. We’ve heard your feedback requesting a management interface that provides flexibility in assigning permissions for each person in an organization. To address this need, we launched Custom Roles & Permissions, an enhanced Members dashboard that enables org admins to create new roles outside of the previously available list of roles and customize the specific permissions that each role has within their organization. The new dashboard also enables admins to assign roles to specific apps. This added versatility supports publishers or individuals managing multiple apps for different developers, and it helps admins tailor permissions for external members or freelancers.
Previously, Admin, Developer, Editor, and Finance were the only roles available in the Developer Dashboard. This limited selection blurred roles and permissions and created instances in which org members had more or fewer permissions than were needed for their position. It was also unclear what exact permissions each of these predefined roles had.
With Custom Roles & Permissions, these roadblocks are alleviated through more granular control over features and functions within the Developer Dashboard. Admins can now create any role, give it a name, and select all the necessary permissions that role should have. From there, they can assign members to that role or multiple roles.
Custom Roles & Permissions are now available for all organizations. If you haven’t already migrated to the new roles and permissions experience, log into the Developer Dashboard and visit the Members dashboard. You should see a migration window prompting you to migrate. Click “Next,” and then select “Migrate” to complete the setup.
If you’ve already clicked out of the migration window and want to migrate, click “Learn More” on the top banner titled “New Members Management Experience” in the Developer Dashboard.
Please note that all organizations will be automatically migrated on September 30, 2022. This change will not affect existing roles or permissions, and it will not affect app functionality.
We’re excited to give you the flexibility to align roles on the Developer Dashboard with your organization’s operations—and make it easier for org admins to facilitate members’ access to resources and information.
