John Carmack’s App Reviews

Oculus VRBlog Hero Image
Don’t call it a comeback. Facebook Reality Labs Executive Advisor and VR guru John Carmack is bringing back his signature app reviews in a new series of recorded videos and written posts. He will be giving (brutally honest) feedback on developer apps, including design tips, technical fixes and suggestions for an improved experience within your app.
A gaming pioneer and guiding voice within the Oculus community, Carmack has provided his App Reviews to crowds of developers, both in person at past Oculus Connect events and on social media. While he will remind you that his opinions are his own, they are often reinforced by data that shows how some easy-to-implement changes can have a significant impact on the overall experience of your app.
If you’d like to have Carmack review your Oculus Quest game or application, please complete this form.
In his first App Review in this new series, Carmack dives into Space Shooter and shares actionable feedback that could make the app experience more engaging, visually appealing, and simply, better.
Take a look at this previous live Carmack App Review from Oculus Connect 5 or the blog posts below for a peek at more pearls of wisdom on the horizon as we kick off this new series:
Disclaimer: Carmack’s App Reviews are based on opinion and, while valuable advice, are not a replacement for Oculus Store submission, review, or distribution decisions. Oculus is also not responsible for any hurt feelings post-review but offer hugs and encouragement should that happen.
