Preparing for Upcoming Developer Organization Verification (Updated)
Please Note: This blog post has been updated as of May 23, 2023. All Meta Quest developers now have until August 16, 2023 to complete Developer Organization Verification. This is a change from the previously communicated date of May 31, 2023.
In building a VR ecosystem with integrity at its core, we’ve dedicated ourselves to a mission of ensuring Meta Quest user data is managed securely and responsibly by all apps and organizations on our platform. In partnership with our developer community, we share a responsibility to Meta Quest users to continue improving the transparency surrounding how data is used and the standard to which apps and experiences are held accountable on our platform—including standards for verifying the legitimacy of businesses accessing user data.
In continuing this mission, we’re introducing Developer Organization Verification (Org Verification), a new layer of verification designed to reinforce the integrity of our platform and ensure the authenticity of developer organizations within the Meta Quest ecosystem.
It’s important for us and our developer community to instill trust with users by providing a consistent standard for authenticity across all types of organizations that ship experiences on the Meta Quest Platform. Beginning August 16, 2023, we will require all developer organizations to complete Org Verification in order to publish new apps or update existing apps on the Meta Quest Store and App Lab, including submitting metadata updates. Organizations will also be required to complete Org Verification in order to submit Data Use Checkup (DUC) certification. Below we cover what this means for you, including key dates to be aware of and support resources to help you navigate the verification process.
How to Complete Org Verification
Org Verification complements our developer account verification, which requires developers to provide a business contact and payment information in order to distribute apps on our platform. With Org Verification, we’re asking developers to help confirm the authenticity and legitimacy of their developer organization.
Org Verification page in the Developer Dashboard.
Verifying your organization can be completed in the Developer Dashboard by navigating to the Organization Verification page on the left hand side of the Org Manager. Org admins will also be prompted to complete verification either when uploading an App Submission or before submitting the Data Use Checkup. Depending on your organization, Org Verification can be completed in one of two ways:
Business Verification
Recommended for organizations that are legal business entities and can be verified through valid documentation
May require business name, address, and phone number
Admin Verification
Intended for organizations without a legal business entity
Requires an authorized representative (org admin) to upload at least one form of identification with information matching that which is associated with the admin’s Meta account.
After submitting your organization’s verification information, your submission will be reviewed by our team at Meta, and an email will be provided to confirm successful verification or request more information. The Organization Verification page will also be updated to correspond with changes to your submission status to help you ensure your organization is compliant.
For more information and guidance on verifying your organization, check out the documentation.
Key Dates to Be Aware Of
Org Verification is being rolled out to our developer community in phases, and your organization’s distribution method will determine when you’re able to complete the verification process. We encourage developers to complete the verification process as soon as possible to help ensure your organization is compliant prior to August 16, 2023 and maintain ample time to resolve any requests for more information.
February 6, 2023: Org Verification is available for developer organizations with access to publish apps on the Meta Quest Store.
March 31, 2023: Org Verification is available for all developer organizations.
August 16, 2023: Org Verification becomes a requirement for all developers in order to submit apps to the Meta Quest Store and/or App Lab, update existing apps, and submit metadata updates. Developers that haven’t completed the verification process at this time will also be unable to submit a Data Use Checkup until successfully verifying their organization.
Get More Support with Developer Resources
By creating a new standard for developer verification, we’re signaling our ongoing commitment to build trust with Meta Quest users through ensuring the legitimacy of the organizations behind the apps and experiences they know and love.
We want to support you throughout this process, and we’ve updated our FAQs to help answer any questions you may have. To help ensure a smooth process, we’ll also send verification reminders as the August 16 deadline approaches. For additional guidance, be sure to refer to the Org Verification documentation.
Thank you for your role in reinforcing the integrity of the Meta Quest Platform.
