2D web development
Updated: Sep 4, 2026
A 2D web experience for Meta Quest is a standards-based website hosted on the web and opened in Meta Quest Browser. Build and host the site with your usual web workflow, then test it in Browser on a Meta Quest headset.
- Build and host your site with standard web technologies.
- Review Browser specifications to use feature detection and account for Browser’s viewing modes and resizable window.
- Open the hosted URL in Meta Quest Browser. Use Debug Browser content to inspect the site with Chrome DevTools.
Web content in Browser does not receive gaze hover events. The system renders hover feedback on your behalf. Looking at an element does not fire :hover styles or pointer events. Do not depend on hover state for user flows. This matches how a touchscreen behaves: the page learns about the interaction only when the user commits. The system identifies interactive elements from the rendered page, so build controls from semantic HTML such as <button> and <a href>, or give them an interactive ARIA role and make them focusable.
Interactive elements should be at least 48 x 48 CSS pixels. Browser runs in a window the user can resize, so CSS pixels do not map to a fixed angular size across window sizes. Treat 48 x 48 as a design convention, not as a floor the platform enforces. Controls should be sized generously rather than to the minimum, and test your layout at the smallest window size you support.
Optional app distribution
You can distribute the hosted site without packaging it as an app. If you need app distribution, you can optionally package the site as a 2D Progressive Web App (PWA).
