The New Year is here, and that means more opportunities to create excitement and visibility for your app. Consider these tips and features that can help you grow your community in 2022.
Create and Recommend Destinations / Deep Linking
If your app has new DLCs, levels, social areas, arenas or customizations, consider creating a destination to your new content and share it directly via deep linking. Deep links can be shared on marketing materials, social media, emails and more, and allow people to instantly engage with your new content without the hassle of searching for it on their own. Destinations and deep links are also available off-platform, allowing you the ability to reach people on social media, online forums, or through marketing materials. They will be shown a preview on Oculus.com and have the ability to remotely launch content on their Quest from any web browser. Visit the documentation to get started creating destinations and deep links today.
App Gifting (available for Oculus Store and App Lab apps)
Increase visibility and the user base of your app by encouraging existing people to gift your app to their friends or family. Remind your community that they can create shared experiences and memories with those they care about most by playing together locally or online. Encouraging people to gift your app can be as simple as creating a developer post (see below). To gift an app, visit the Store and look for the “Buy for a Friend” button on the website or tap the “⋮” menu on the mobile app. App gifting is also available for App Lab apps.
Developer Posts & Events
Developer posts are a great way to re-engage your community and keep die-hard fans in-the-loop with new announcements, updates, and content changes to your app. Developer posts are highlighted in the Home Feed and your app’s product detail page.
Additionally, developers can spur increased engagement with active gamers and re-engage idle gamers through the creation of developer events. Your community has the ability to browse and subscribe to events for your app in the Home Feed and Social Tab, and those who subscribe will receive reminders in the days leading up to the event. This feature is perfect for developers to drive synchronicity between the app itself and limited-time app features, tournaments or special screenings.
Please note that both developer posts and developer events are recommended to be submitted one week in advance of launch in order to receive proper review and approval. Get started creating your next developer post here, and learn more details about creating your next developer event here.
Casting and Mixed Reality Capturing
Drive greater awareness and interest in your app among pre-purchase audiences by encouraging people to take advantage of the casting feature and share their VR experiences with their family and friends this holiday season. Your community can also utilize Mixed Reality Capturing to create highlight reels that can be shared on their personal social media accounts.
These highlight reels produced with Mixed Reality Capturing provide audiences with a synchronized 2-D video of the user interacting with an app in real-time. Seeing real, in-game footage gives potential people the information they need to make a purchase, and gives important context to understand the reactions and movements of the user. With the consistent rise in the popularity of video game streaming, Mixed Reality Capturing and casting are essential ways to engage with streamers and VR content creators. Check out our documentation and best practices and our Q&A with Scout House, a mixed reality studio in LA.
Marketing Analytics
Understanding the effectiveness of your marketing strategy is key to the success of your app and outreach efforts. The Marketing Attribution Analytics tool makes it easier than ever to track link clicks and conversions, and also determine the marketing sources which lead to visits to your app’s Product Detail Page (PDP). For more information, please view the documentation.
Seasonal Thumbnails and Imagery
Periodically updating the visual assets of your app can garner attention, and creating thumbnails for your app that correspond with the seasons or showcases new updates both captures their curiosity and lets them know that your app is continuously updated. Keep in mind our Asset Guidelines and watch our video about creating and submitting assets for your app.
We hope these tips are a useful starting point as you market your app during the New Year. If you have any questions or feedback, please let us know on the developer forum.
