Subscriptions FAQ
Are subscriptions supported for PC VR (Rift)? No, subscriptions are not supported for PC VR.
How should I test subscriptions? For instructions, see
Test Subscriptions. After setting up your subscription tiers, the next step is to test them inside your app. Prior to receiving approval for your proposed subscriptions, you can test subscriptions with:
- Test users created from the Developer Dashboard for your developer org.
- Users who belong to the developer org.
You can manage subscriptions for your test users through the Manage Test User Subscriptions tab on the Subscriptions page. This tab allows you to purchase new subscriptions for your test users as well as force renew, force expire, cancel, and delete existing test subscriptions.
Users won’t know if a subscription exists unless you show it on the PDP or in your app. You can keep any subscriptions you are testing hidden and unavailable until you are ready to launch them.
How do you choose specific billing terms in the checkout flow? {SKU}:SUBSCRIPTION__{TERM} is the pattern used for subscription tiers with multiple billing terms. For a SKU named “TEST_SKU”, the monthly billing term would be represented as TEST_SKU:SUBSCRIPTION__MONTHLY
Why aren’t my foreign currency prices updating or calculated correctly based on current exchange rates? International pricing is determined by a fixed price map per currency. It does not fluctuate with daily changes in currency exchange rates.
You likely have reached the limit of 3 tiers per subscription.
Not yet.
When are users shown the Intro Offer price for a subscription? Intro Offer prices are only available for users who are signing up for a subscription for the first time, or whose subscriptions expired more than 30 days ago. Users who have newly-expired subscriptions, or subscriptions in different tiers, will not be able to subscribe at the Intro Offer price.
How are payments issues handled? Meta supports an auto-renewing billing cycle for all active subscriptions. If a subscription fails to renew, the subscriber receives an email with instructions on how to update their payment method to keep their subscription.
Can users sign up for multiple free trials? No. Trials are tracked and consumed per subscription. While a user may upgrade or downgrade between a gold and bronze tier, they can’t obtain the same trial twice. All billing terms share one trial.
Can we create a new subscription tier with the same properties and retire an older subscription tier? No. But because you are in control of which subscriptions are available for sale, you can choose which are active and which to hide. At this time, we have no way of migrating customers from an old offer to a new one.
Can you merge or change subscriptions for live SKUs? No. You can create new SKUs around an existing subscription (that is, the one you would have merged to) and stop offering the old SKUs for sale. Existing subscribers stay on their old SKU unless they cancel and resubscribe, but any new subscribers would be buying the new offer.
Is the amount shown for In App Purchases counting only post-trial confirmed subscriptions? Yes. Purchases can’t be made until after the end of a trial.
Can we see the split between yearly and monthly subscriptions? Not yet.
Can we see what was refunded (yearly/monthly) and reasons for refund? We don’t currently offer refunds for subscriptions.
Can we see any details on the number of entitlements and whom they were given to? An entitlement occurs when a user downloads and opens the app. This is not the same as a subscription plan purchase.
Where do we find the revenue that is transferred to a developer at the end of the month? You receive a monthly statement with the official totals on it in the finance section of the developer portal. Only that statement is considered accurate for the monthly deposit amount.
