User Age Category package
Updated: Sep 4, 2026
The
Platform SDK User Age Category Package lets your application retrieve a user’s age category, so it can tailor content and features accordingly. The categories are Child, Teenage (13-17), and Adult (18+).
The package returns a category; it does not itself make an application compliant. Use it as one input when building age-appropriate behavior for regimes such as COPPA and GDPR. The obligations remain the developer’s. It matters most for applications with user-generated content or social features.
Add the following to your project’s ./gradle/libs.versions.toml file:
[libraries]
# Existing lines
user-age-category-kotlin = { module = "com.meta.horizon.platform.sdk:user-age-category-kotlin", version.ref = "horizonPlatformSdk" }
dependencies {
// Existing lines
implementation(libs.user.age.category.kotlin)
}
In Android Studio, click File > Sync Project with Gradle Files to install the package.
Click Build > Generate App Bundles or APKs > Generate APKs.
In the “External Libraries” section of your project, confirm that these packages are listed.
com.meta.horizon.platform.sdk:core-kotlin
com.meta.horizon.platform.sdk:user-age-category-kotlin
Now you can initialize the Platform SDK and use User Age Category package functions in your app.
Test these APIs on
Meta Spatial Simulator without a physical device.
Sign in to the simulator first. When signed in, these APIs call the Meta backend and return real responses. When signed out, they return an authentication error rather than sample data.
