Collecting remote playtest feedback

Updated: Aug 13, 2025
As a developer, sometimes you need to gather playtest data from a broad group of users who are physically remote from your location. You can share these remote playtest guidelines with your app playtesters to collect the valuable feedback they can provide. Be sure to tell the playtester that you appreciate their participation in the playtesting feedback process.
As a remote app playtester, here are a few recommendations on how best to give playtest feedback to your app developers.

Record Video Screen Capture

App developers prefer to both hear and see what occurred during your playtesting session. Here are two different ways to enable video screen recordings:

Controller hot keys

  • Hold down the Meta Quest Button button
  • Long press the trigger button

Home button

  • Short press the Meta Quest Button button
  • Press the movie camera button on the home screen
Both of the options above will initiate a video screen recording.

Enable mic recordings

To allow app developers to hear what you are saying while playtesting their app, enable mic recordings when you initiate video screen recording. You should see a dialog similar to this.

Speak your thoughts

As you proceed through the playtesting experience, be sure to voice your thoughts throughout the playtesting session. Simply talk aloud as you engage with the app content and explain what you are thinking.

Stop your recording

Repeat the steps you took to start your recording in order to stop it.

Using controller hot keys

  • Hold down the Meta Quest Button button
  • Long press the trigger button

Using the Home button

  • Short press the Meta Quest Button button
  • Press the movie camera button

Give feedback

Once you stop your recording, you can submit your feedback by pressing the Meta Quest Button button and selecting the Submit Playtesting Feedback button. This will bring up a dialog that allows you to attach your captured media and optionally provide text-based feedback to better explain the media.

Feedback best practices

  • Keep recordings as focused as possible. Shorter videos or a clear screenshot will better help highlight the feedback you are trying to convey.
  • Use text feedback to supplement media. You can use the speech to text on the keyboard to assist with this.
  • Text-only feedback is permitted, but should only be used when capturing media is not possible.
