We recently announced that Gear VR development is no longer supported in the Oculus SDK. As a follow-up to this, we want to let our developer community know that as of September 15, 2020, we will no longer be accepting new Gear VR applications to the Oculus Store.
This means that as of September 15, 2020:
  • You will no longer be able to create new applications for Gear VR in the Developer Dashboard.
  • You will no longer be able to mark apps as being compatible with Gear VR.
  • Mobile VRCs will no longer include Gear VR hardware.
  • Oculus Developer Support will no longer provide support for Gear VR development issues.
After this date, existing Gear VR applications can still continue to be updated, and people will still be able to access and download apps through the Gear VR Store.
Since we launched Gear VR in partnership with Samsung in 2014, it has enabled people all over the world to experience virtual reality for the first time and has set the foundation for the continued growth that VR is seeing today. All of you who have built, tinkered, and shipped apps on Gear VR have played an important part in pioneering where VR is now.
Thank you for your time, and if you have any questions please send them to submissions@oculus.com.
