Estimated Time: 1 hour
What You'll Need:
- Windows PC
- Access to the Worlds Desktop Editor
- An image to upload as a texture
Challenge Steps:
1. Find a Model in the Public Asset Library
- Open the Horizon Worlds desktop editor and create a new world.
- At the bottom of the editor, find the “Asset Library” panel and click on "Public Assets".
- Use the search bar to find a model that you'd like to texture. Simple objects like a "shield," "sword," or "chest" are great choices.
- Drag the model from the asset library into your world.
2. Use a Custom Uploaded Texture
- Find an image on your computer that you'd like to use as a texture, or create one yourself.
- In the desktop editor, find the “Asset Library” panel and click on "My Assets".
- Click "Add New" and select "Texture" to upload your image file.
- Select your 3D model in the world. In the properties panel on the right, find the "Texture Asset" dropdown and select the texture you just uploaded.
3. Generate a Texture with AI
- With the model selected, open the GenAI panel by clicking the icon in the top toolbar.
- Switch to the "Texture" mode in the GenAI panel.
- In the prompt box, describe the texture you want to create. For example, try "glowing lava rock," "ancient mossy stone," or "futuristic holographic grid."
- Click "Generate." After a moment, you'll see a thumbnail of the generated texture.
4. Apply and Save Your AI Texture
- Click on the generated texture thumbnail to preview it on your model.
- If you like the result, click "Save and apply texture" to permanently assign it to the mesh.
- You can also save the texture to your asset library for later use by clicking "Add to asset library," or download it to your computer.
Level Up:
- Experiment with more complex prompts in the Generative AI tool. Try combining different styles and concepts.
- Try creating a seamless, tiling texture with the GenAI tool and apply it to a larger surface like a floor or wall.
