Version 38.0.0 Release Notes

We are excited to announce the release of our v38 SDK which includes several major changes and bug fixes.
Major Changes

New Minimum Unity Version

The minimum supported Unity version has been updated from 2021.3.26f1 -> 2022.3.15f1

Upgrade to Humanoid Avatar Rig

We introduced Humanoid Avatar Rig v5 and its corresponding variant into the SDK, while renaming the previous version as Humanoid Avatar Rig v3. This new version represents our ongoing optimization efforts for the internal avatar rig representation.
To ensure a seamless transition, we implemented backward compatibility that allows animations and direct manipulations authored with the v3 rig to continue to work on newer versions of avatars.

Guidelines for choosing the right rig:
For custom animations that need to blend with default locomotion, please continue to use Humanoid Avatar Rig v3 and its variants.
For custom animations or direct manipulations that do not require blending with default locomotion, using Humanoid Avatar Rig v5 will provide slight performance savings over the v3 rig because backward compatibility mapping is not necessary.

Bug Fixes

OpenXR with Quest Link: We have resolved an input race condition issue that occurred when running sample scenes through Quest Link under OpenXR. This issue caused the avatar to either become unresponsive to input or flip 180 degrees facing the wrong direction. This fix is now included in the latest release.

Mitigations
Lipsync with Unity 6:

We observed a reduction in avatar lipsync amplitude in Unity 6 compared to previous versions. This decrease affects the avatar's facial expressiveness during conversations. This is caused by a change in default audio sampling rate handling in Unity 6, and this can be mitigated by setting the Player Settings->Audio->System Sample Rate to 48000.

Known Issues
Visual Artifacts in Preset Avatar: It’s been reported that there are visual tears for preset 25 when rendered under LOD1 and LOD2. We are working on replacing the asset for future release.
