Meta Horizon Apps Must Target Android 14 Starting March 1

Update February 6, 2026: We have adjusted which apps are required to meet these new Android target requirements. Instead of all new binary uploads for new or existing Meta Horizon apps needing to target API level 34, now only apps created in the Developer Dashboard after March 1, 2026 will have this requirement.
Starting March 1, 2026, all new Meta Horizon apps created in the Developer Dashboard are required to target Android 14 (API level 34). This means targetSdkVersion must be API level 34, though minSdkVersion will not be impacted and can still use API level 32. This requirement is an update to the current target of Android 12L.
With this change, we’re taking advantage of security fixes associated with the newer API to further improve the security and health of our platform.

What you can expect:

  • Existing apps using a lower version will continue to work, and minSdkVersion can be set to API level 32, but any new apps created in the Developer Dashboard will need the minimum required targetSdkVersion API level starting March 1, 2026.
  • You may receive security warnings in the test results page for apps submitted with less than targetSdkVersion API level 34 starting November 24, 2025.
  • API level 34 will be enforced during binary upload, meaning you will not be able to upload binaries with a lower targetSdkVersion level for apps created after March 1, 2026.
  • targetSDK as Android 14 will be enforced to facilitate compatibility with current OS versions starting March 1, 2026.

You can also update your API version automatically if you use the Project Setup Tool in Unity or Unreal with the Meta XR SDKs.
