Introducing Oculus Quest, Our First 6DOF All-in-One VR System

Oculus VRBlog Hero Image
Today at OC5, we announced Oculus Quest, our first all-in-one VR gaming system. Offering six degrees of freedom and Touch controllers for true hand presence, Oculus Quest will launch in Spring 2019 for $399 USD. In past years, we’ve shown you the Santa Cruz prototype, a milestone on the path to Oculus Quest today, and we’re excited to help usher in a new era of VR gaming.
With the introduction of Oculus Quest, we’ve completed our first generation of best-in-class VR headsets. Oculus Go remains the easiest and most affordable way to get into VR, while Rift leverages the power of your PC to push the limits of what’s possible. Now Oculus Quest, combines the best of both worlds and allows you to reach even more people with new innovative, immersive games.
Oculus Quest comes with Oculus Touch, a new version of the same controllers that come with Rift, built specifically for all-in-one VR gaming. We’ve ensured that our current control inputs, PC tools, and Unity and Unreal integrations map to Oculus Quest to support development for this new device. That means that you can now build for Oculus Quest and then port content to Oculus Rift with minimal code changes.
Full documentation support will launch in 2019.
Oculus Insight
We also unveiled Oculus Insight, our breakthrough technology that powers inside-out tracking, Guardian, and Touch controller tracking. This innovative system uses four ultra wide-angle sensors and computer vision algorithms to track your exact position in real time without any external sensors. Insight gives you a greater sense of immersion, presence, and mobility. And we’ve brought over Guardian to help keep people safer while in VR. It’s easy to setup and experience whenever you want. Now you can have the freedom to experiment with new gameplay, immersive interactions, and freedom of movement through incredibly accurate positional tracking, minus the cables and external sensors typically needed for room-scale VR and beyond.
Under the Hood
Oculus Quest includes the same next-gen optics as Oculus Go, while incorporating an adjustable IPD slider like Rift for increased comfort. The new hardware uses 1440x1600 panels for each lens, providing a high-definition immersive experience for your games.
We’ve also improved our built-in audio, so you can take advantage of high-quality, sound with better bass—even without headphones.
Oculus Quest runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 mobile chip set, providing the device with lightning fast performance speeds. The entire headset has been designed to maximize the performance of this processor, from advanced thermal venting to OS-level performance improvements.
We can’t wait to share what’s next!
