Hands-On Challenge Overview

This challenge introduces you to the Environment Generator Gen AI tool.
You’ll learn how to:
  • You will be able to generate an environment using the Environment Generator Gizmo
  • You will be able to save the generated environment to your asset library.
  • You will be able to flesh out your environment using the other Gen AI Tools.
Estimated Time: 30-60 mins

What You'll Need:

  • Generative AI Environment Generation Tool
  • A new World

Challenge Steps:

1. Generate the Environment
  • Go to Build > Gizmos
  • Right click on the Environment Generator and select Place.
  • Select the new Environment Generator gizmo in your world.
  • Now think about the environment you want. Its size, the island type, how many buildings you want and of what type.
  • In the Environment Generation section of the properties panel.
    • Adjust the setting to your liking. Make sure to have at least 1 building.
  • In the Prompt property, either type what you want or click on the Light Bulb for a prompt.
  • Click the Generate button and wait for your new environment to generate.
2. Parent Like Items
  • Now that your environment has been generated you will have a lot of new objects in your world. In order to keep your Hierarchy clean and easy to navigate, we will parent like items.
    • Don’t forget to name the new parent object something meaningful. For example, if it's a bunch of trees, name it Trees.
  • If your environment has multiple tree objects, select all of them, right click on one of the selected and click Create parent object or press Ctrl+G. Repeat this step for all like items.
3. Save Your Environment
  • Now it is time to save the environment as an asset.
  • Select the environment parent object, the Environment Generator Gizmo used to generate the environment. Right click on it and click on Create Asset.
  • Alternatively, If you do not like the environment but like certain objects within it. Save those as assets and generate a new environment.
3. Flesh Out Your Environment
  • The environment generator does a great job of adding trees, foliage, buildings but it does not generate anything inside of the buildings. Now it is time to use some of the other Gen AI tools.
  • Generate some furniture for your building using the 3D Model Gen AI tool. Make sure to select the correct model size. Once it's done, save it to your asset library and place it into the building.
    • Don’t forget to name the new object in the Hierarchy something meaningful.
  • Now with your building furnished it's time to add sound audio. No world is complete without some ambient sounds.
  • Select the Ambient Audio Gen AI tool. Think about your environment and prompt the tool with a description of your environment. You can use the same prompt used to generate the environment. Once it's done, save it to your asset library and place it into the world. Select the Audio Gizmo and toggle on Loop and Play on Start.
  • Last but not least we need to generate a Skybox to fit the environment. Select the Sky Gen AI tool and describe the desired background. You can use the same prompt used to generate the environment. Once it's done, click the Save and apply skydome button.

Level Up:

Add Life to the Island
  • Add some NPCs from the Public Asset library.
  • Add the Birds and/or Insects VFX from the Public Asset library.
  • Add some interactive assets from the Public Asset library.
  • All of these things will help bring your creation to life.
  • Now go and explore your new world.

Conclusion:

At this point you should have a fully fleshed out environment that's full of life. Completing this challenge is a major step toward mastering the Environment Generator Gen AI tool and fleshing out a world full of life.
You should now be able to generate many environments using the Environment Generator gizmo. Organize the generated environment and other assets in your Hierarchy and bring your world to life through audio, visual and interactive objects.
